Green Drinks November
Our first Green Drinks event is Wednesday, November 19th from 6:00 – 8:00pm at Italian Kitchen – 648 Deerfield Rd., Deerfield.
Our presentation is on the restoration of Berkeley Prairie – one of Lake County Forest Preserves’ 64 sites and the only one that borders Deerfield.
Our speakers are Amy and Chris Call, the Lake County Forest Preserve stewards leading volunteer restoration efforts at Berkeley.
They will share:
- the history of the preserve and the unique nature of the land and wildlife it now protects
- how & why the prairie is managed – including seed collection efforts, the removal of buckthorn and other invasive plants, and the role of prescribed burns in restoration
- the challenges of working among hungry ticks and rutting deer, and the joys
- of finding and protecting rare plant species and making a difference in our area
- and most importantly – how the public can help!
