Deerfield has joined with other members of the North Shore Electricity Aggregation Consortium to offer CS² – a new community solar program in North Suburban Chicago. The joint effort with the villages of Highland Park, Glencoe, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Northbrook and Skokie will offer residents the opportunity to support the development of solar energy installations in Illinois while reducing the cost of their electric bills.

The CS² program provides a simple and effective way for residents to directly support the use of clean, renewable solar energy without the need to install solar panels or other devices on their homes. It is the largest municipally-sponsored community solar program in Illinois.

The Village of Deerfield has a summary of the program on their website that explains many of the features of the program:

  • No up-front costs
  • No long-term contract
  • No need to change your utility (Com Ed)
  • A guaranteed rate reduction on your electric bills
  • Almost all Deerfield residents are eligible

An online signup form is already available through the consortium, along with more detailed information about how community solar programs work and the various benefits of joining the CS² program.
