We have opportunities for people of all abilities to: clean up litter\, plant flowers for a monarch waystation\, plant trees and shrubs\, or remove invasive buckthorn. Please arrive prior to 9:00 a.m. so we can start on time \nRegistration is encouraged so that we can provide enough supplies for each location. Register for the Trinity UCC on North Ave or the Briarwood Park on River Rd location.  \nAs a special thank you\, volunteers receive a Chicago River Day T-shirt! Snacks will be provided\, too! Volunteering brightens our landscape and our community spirit. Grab a friend\, your family or a whole group and join your neighbors who embrace this opportunity. Please wear closed toed shoes\, work clothes that can get dirty\, and bring a full (reusable if possible) water bottle. Families with children over 8 are encouraged to participate. SUMMARY:Coal Ash Rules Session - ILEPA
DESCRIPTION:IL EPA is holding hearings on coal power\, at which individuals can speak and/or submit comments in favor of responsible policy. The two hearings (2-4pm \, and 6-8pm) are on regulations for how coal companies dispose of/handle coal ash. \n \nThese hearings were hard-won and are exceptional opportunities for Lake County citizens to have major impact both on how coal plants are permitted and how coal ash is handled – including at the Waukegan NRG coal plant. That plant has 2 coal ash ponds that are leaking into groundwater that ends up in Lake Michigan\, contaminating our drinking water. The plant also has a coal ash landfill that can also leach into groundwater.
