DESCRIPTION:CRD is returning to Deerfield for the 3rd year! \nGo Green Deerfield teams up with members of Trinity United Church of Christ for a CRD work site at the church’s woodland bordering the Middle Fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River. \nAt the Briarwood and Trail Tree Park CRD work site\, Go Green Deerfield helps the Deerfield Park District continue to restore another wooded treasure near the river in our community. \nBoth workday sites will incorporate trash pickup in the wooded areas as well as the nearby river branch\, removal of invasive species like Buckthorn\, and planting of native plants\, trees\, and shrubs.  You may opt for any one of these activities.  There is something for everyone! \nSee below for registration info from Friends of Chicago River.  Don’t delay!  Registration fills up fast! \nTrinity site \nBriarwood site \nThis event is family friendly with parental supervision.  Rain or shine. \n*Some tools will be available on site\, but you are also welcome to bring hand trowels\, shovels\, spades\, garden gloves\, safety goggles\, loppers/hand saw (for Buckthorn removal option). \n*Long pants and sleeves and sturdy\, closed toed shoes are highly suggested.

DESCRIPTION:Take a stroll with members of the Deerfield Park District and Go Green Deerfield through one of Deerfield’s woodland gems\, and learn about our native spring ephemeral plants. \nThese spring beauties emerge and bloom before the trees leaf out\, then fade away until next spring. \nSee plants like mayapple\, trillium\, spring beauties\, Jack in the pulpit\, hepatica\, and more! \nLeading the tour is Rob Sulski\, who has many years of experience working with native plants and in woodland and prairie restoration. \nLong pants and closed toe shoes are highly encouraged\, as well as staying on the trail.  Another native plant that is emerging is poison ivy!  (*This walk is a great time to learn how to identify it)

DESCRIPTION:SWALCO and University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners Announce 2022 Learning Series\nGardening and food bring people together. They foster a sense of enjoyment\, peace\, security\, health and well-being. More individuals and families are reaching out and interested in learning how to start a garden while others are excited to learn how to compost. And\, for those who are already gardening\, perhaps we can help you “up” your gardening game. \nThe Garden Learning Series features a number of workshops to help and educate on a variety of topics. The first program will cover seed starting for your garden and of course\, we will offer a program dedicated to compost and composting! Workshops will be held the second Wednesday of the month from 6:00-7:30 p.m. A list of upcoming topics and workshops can be found on the SWALCO site. \nThis program series is offered in collaboration with University of Illinois Extension and Master Gardeners via a two-year grant that SWALCO received from USDA. The grant focuses on efforts to promote composting and food waste diversion\, and also hopes to increase the generation and use of compost in commercial\, residential\, agriculture\, and community gardens sectors in Lake County. Registration is free for all\, thanks to the grant.
